5/11/10 – Day 49 Finally some movement!
Well, it is now day 49 and there are only two more weeks to go! I’m getting so excited I can’t stand it! From the experienced breeders who have seen Saturday’s Day 47 pink ribbon photo, they are guessing a big litter of 9-10
puppies! We will know soon enough. She has an appointment with the vet next Tuesday for an xray to count how many puppies are in there! Then she will head to Liz’s for her last week of pregnancy. The puppies are due May 26th.
As you can tell from last week’s photo, she has grown A LOT in the last week and will no doubtedly grow even more in the next two weeks. Last week, I was able to feel little gurgles that I’m assuming were puppies, but could have been gas. But this last weekend, I DEFINITELY felt movement. I spent most of the weekend laying with her on the couch with my hand on her belly feeling little puppy kicks. I tried to get some video of it and while the clarity was great on my phone, once I uploaded it to YouTube, it got all blurry and you couldn’t see anything. But, I’ll keep trying! Last night, I got home late and in order to get my snuggle time in, I let her on the bed with me while I watched American Idol (go Crystal!). My bed is tall so I wondered if she would be able to get up there. She did, but I could tell she was pushing it so no more jumping unless she has a stool. Good thing I found a ramp on Freecycle for her to get in/out of the truck with. So anyway, while laying on the bed with me, once again my hands were resting on her belly and the puppies were alive and kickin’! It seemed I could poke them and they would poke back! I gotta wonder if Roxie has any idea what is going on in her tummy and what kind of little monsters will be coming out in a couple of weeks.
I’m working on getting a puppy cam so you (and I) can see the puppies any time. Stay tuned…
As far as having a puppy shower, unfortunately time has gotten away from me and I just don’t have time to get it done before she heads off to Liz’s. I am however looking for any of your used baby stuff. Blankets larger than 48″x48″, boppie’s, large stuffed animals that the puppies can snuggle up against when Mom is on a break, heading pads, play mats similar to this one to the left. Just like human babies, puppies need stimulation and teething toys as well.
So, if your kids are older and you don’t need these things anymore, I would love to have them for the puppies. Or, if you just can’t stand it, here is a link to Amazon.com where you can buy some cool puppy toys.
Well, that’s all for today! Remember, to see all of the photos of Roxie’s growth, click HERE or click on any of the Roxie pictures above. Have a great week and keep an eye out for xray photos next week!
I ordered 3 yards of faux sheepskin. It will make two pads. the heavy duty ones I have are really heavy and two thick to get into my washer. They have to go to the big ones at the laundramat.
