5/5/10 – She is My Friend
I know that a lot of you read my blog posts about Roxie and perhaps wonder if I’ve lost my marbles. To some of you, it may seem strange that I have spent so much time, creating a breed club, field training, seeking titles, driving to Oregon to breed, etc… some may not understand my excitement for her pregnancy and for the arrival of her puppies. I’m sure an eyebrow or two raised when I mentioned a Puppy Shower.
Yeah, it seems I am off my rocker but really for me this is an amazing experience. Since we brought Roxie home 3 years ago, she has been a pain in my butt and a money pit but as of a year and a half ago, she became my companion. She was there for me, when other’s had left me. She kept me busy and gave me a whole list of new hobbies to keep me busy. These new hobbies gave me a confidence that I didn’t have before.
We took road trips and camped together, we played together, we walked together, we hunted together, and she kept me company at night when it was quiet and I was alone. She snuggled with me on the couch and kept me warm, she watches over me and keeps me safe. She licked my tears as I grieved the loss of my marriage. She was the best thing Tate could have given me when he left. She has been my rock.
So yes, she’s a dog. But she is also my friend, my companion and I will do anything I can to be to her what she has been to me.
Oh you don’t have to tell me I totally understand having these dogs my whole adult life. They think they are people in the first place. My Pan means the same to me and I’m so in love with him it hurts. This is why I’m getting a second dog I fear if anything happened to him I could not bear it. He is so fixated on me too that he needs another dog around to help him. I have lined up a breeder in Oregon with the help of Deb Nusbaum and the pups were born April 26th. I suggest you keep one of the pups and have a second dog too.
