6/6/10 – They are so BIG!
It has been a week and a half since I saw the puppies last so I was really excited to get to go see them this weekend. I arrived at Liz’s Saturday afternoon where she was patiently awating my arrival so we could get to work! I took a few minutes to snuggle some puppies and get some puppy breath, and of course, snuggle Roxie. There was one point where I would be on my hands and knees in front of the whelping box peering in at the puppies and Roxie would come up beside me and peer in too. We would both just be looking at the puppies with such wonderment.
So now it was time to get some puppy housekeeping done. Time to weigh the puppies, put on clean collars, trim toenails and remove stitches from their docked tails. As I picked up each of the puppies, I learned that Roxie is having a hard time keeping up with the cleaning as they were messy. Poor girl, as soon as you finish cleaning all twelve, it’s time to start over again. Roxie had “evidence” of all the cleaning she had to do on her head and nose. While she cleans one, another one dirties up her head. Eww. The puppies are gaining weight nicely ranging from 2.25 lbs to 3 lbs. Liz will start monitoring the fatties with the skinnies and will also start them on some real mushy (and messy) food. Lucky Roxie gets to clean them up after they get it all over themselves.
Roxie is having a hard time keeping weight on (gee, I wish I had that problem). She is eating almost 12 cups of food a day (up from 3 cups before pregnancy). She is on a new food that is high in protein so she is getting LESS than what she would be getting if she was on her regular food. She’s going to be so disappointed when she comes home and goes back down to 3 cups a day!
Here is a slideshow of this weekend’s pics. It’s hard to get time with all of them so I can get pics. I had to be choosey and snuggle the “clean” ones. I’ll get more pics the next time I’m up in 2 weeks. Enjoy!
Very very cute. My favorite is Li’l Miss Lavendar. Roxie your awsome, twelve puppies and they’re all doing good.
Ok….we melted….my son found a new level of “ahhhhhhh”. I am truly astounded-we laughed so much when Roxie looked so put upon and enough already! Very expressive-some weim are and some are not-she has it-no repression there!
Karin-hoping desperately that the female blue is…..
