Day 16
Seems I tend to get busy on the days that I’m supposed to be taking the weekly photo. Roxie is now on day 16. We are half way through the waiting period where we can officially confirm if she’s pregnant. I really do hate this waiting period. The anticipation is a killer. So many decisions to make, things to buy, plans to make… all having to wait until after the ultrasound.
At this point, this is what’s happening inside according to Royal Canin: Mother & Puppies:
“Day 16 – The embryos become embedded in the uterus lining where they will subsequently develop. They will progressively be enveloped in a protective membrane that provides them with the necessary supply of nutrients. This transient organ, the placenta, will be expelled at birth and very often eaten by the bitch.”
This is a pretty cool website if you’re interested in learning the stages of pregnancy. I’ll probably report here each week what’s happening inside as well.
It’s already getting hot here in the Sacramento area. It’s been in the 90’s this week which is a bit warmer than usual. I think it’s usually closer to the 80’s in May. If it’s any indication of how this summer is going to be, Roxie is going to be MISERABLE in her final weeks of pregnancy (assuming she’s preggers).
Now that the embryos have attached, we can start exercising again. I hope to be able to get her out of the house and to the river or lake for some swimming. Maybe next week I’ll be able to drag myself out of bed for an early morning run before work. We shall see!
In the meantime, have a great weekend!
