Day 50
Thursday was day 50 and if you didn’t see the bump last week, you can certainly see it this week!!! Boy has she grown! I haven’t been home much this week so I haven’t had a chance to really poke at her and search for puppy movement. Today, while trying to stay out of the heat (105+degrees) I final felt one move. Now, I’ll REALLY start poking at her looking for movement, if she lets me. Here is this week’s belly shot, taken on day 51.
Next week begins the countdown to xray day. Unlike the ultrasound a couple of weeks ago, where we could only see little walnuts and really, only the vet knew what she was looking at, this week the xray will show actual puppy skeletons so we’ll be looking for spines connected to heads. I’ll hopefully get to be in the room with her and will most definitely have a photo of the xray!
What’s happening on the inside:
Day 50 – The foetuses can now be seen on an x-ray Towards the 50th day of gestation, the foetuses skeletons are ossified. You can therefore ask your vet to do an x-ray. This examination, in most cases, will enable the number of foetuses to be counted. At whelping, this will reassure you that no puppies have remained stuck. The x-ray is not damaging to the health of your bitch or her puppies.
