Millie’s NAVHDA Natural Ability Test
Int Sr Hnr PM’s BlueRiver Millisecond to None, NA2
I’m excited to announce that on Friday, October 9, 2020 Millie earned her Natural Ability title scoring 98 points and a Prize 2. Scores were as follows (don’t ask me how they come up with a score of 98. There are factors and multiples that I don’t understand):
Eyes – OK | Bite/Teeth – OK | Coat – Med Dense/Med Harsh |
Temperament – Normal | Not Gun shy | Use of Nose – 4 |
Search – 3 | Water – 3 | Pointing – 4 |
Tracking – 4 | Desire to Work – 3 | Cooperation – 4 |
I’m so proud of her! Next up, Millie will begin training for Senior Hunter this winter for testing in the spring. But first, we’re taking a trip to Montana to see my parents and Millie’s breeder. We hope to do some wild pheasant hunting while we’re there. Check out the photos from the day below.
To back up a bit… Millie was scheduled for her Natural Ability test back in May, but due to COVID-19, it was postponed to the fall. It’s actually kind of a good thing since I was having a heck of a time getting her to swim. I really needed the summer heat and warmer water temperatures to get her really interested. After repeated trips the Lake and the use of a life jacket, I finally got her confidence up that she would swim happily. I was still having trouble getting her to go in, but once in, she didn’t want to get out. She would swim out to the kayakers and paddleboarders to say hello. She even swam after some ducks and when they flew away, she kept swimming after them (just keep swimming, swimming, swimming). Check out the video below of her finally willing to swim. Skip to almost the end to see her swimming after the ducks.
We also spent the summer exposing her to birds and hunting to build drive and hunting ability. This video is from back in February when she was just starting out.
