Pupdate 6 Weeks & Millie News
For those who haven’t been following us on Facebook, the puppies are now 6 weeks old and are doing fabulously! They have moved from inside the house to the garage with doggy door access to the side yard. They spend most of the day out there while I work. When the sun is out, they spend time outside playing in the yard or bathing in the sun. In the evenings, I bring them inside so I can spend time with them and play with them. When it’s bedtime, they get their final meal of the day and then head back to the garage/yard. They are using the doggy door consistently and most of the time, using it to go potty outside. They are learning to sit before getting attention or getting fed.
While the puppies are doing great, Mama Millie has had a rough couple of weeks. She wasn’t feeling well last week so I took her to the vet to check her out. Turns out, she had a uterine infection (Pyometra) which can and is deadly to dogs. Fortunately we caught it and made the difficult but only decision to save her life… emergency spay. She stayed at the vet for 3 days to recover and is finally home as of last night. She’s doing well and is happy to be home with her babies. As I type, she’s laying on the deck enjoying the sunshine while being able to supervise her babies from a safe distance. I’m happy to have her home too.
With this unfortunate turn of events, it means that Millie’s breeding career is over. In order for me to be able to breed again, I will have to start all over again with a new puppy (not from this litter because all my females are sold and I just couldn’t take away a puppy from their very anxious new owners). Starting over with a new puppy means a) finding the right puppy; b) training and titling in the field and conformation; c) health testing; finding the right stud, etc… so it could be several years before my next litter.
If you’ve been on the fence about getting a puppy from me, now is the time to do it. I have three gray males still available. One of which is show quality. To learn more about them, you can visit my website here: Available Puppies/Dogs
